About this trek

This route follows Stage 4 of the Markha Valley Trek, a high-altitude path through the remote landscapes of Ladakh, and is also part of the Spituk Variant. Overnight stays occur at the high-altitude meadow of Nimaling, where trekkers stay in established seasonal tented camps or designated backcountry campsites. Water is available from glacial melt streams at the base camp, but all sources must be treated before use due to the presence of livestock. A Wildlife Department permit is mandatory for all hikers entering Hemis National Park. The route passes Zabuk, Tachungtse, and Murdochen campsites along the way.
