About Kashmir Explorer

Kashmir Explorer maps the destinations and high-alpine treks of the Kashmir valley, from the houseboats of Dal Lake to the seven-lake Great Lakes circuit. Each place and route is documented with the details that actually shape a trip: altitude, best months, distance from Srinagar, permit requirements and mobile-network coverage.

Why we built it

Most travel content about Kashmir is either a glossy photo gallery or an out-of-date forum thread. We wanted something practical and current, the kind of information a local guide would give you before you set out. The companion mobile app lets you save places and treks, keeps the catalogue readable when you lose signal, and downloads a per-trek offline pack — the route, its checkpoints, the day-by-day itinerary, safety notes, permits and gear — for the days you have no network at all.

How the information stays current

Destinations and treks are maintained by our editors and refreshed each season. Where a trek has been assessed we show its trail status — open, closing soon or closed — rather than leave you to find out at the trailhead. Where it has not been assessed the page says so: an ungraded trail is a gap in what we know, not a green light. Individual places carry no open/closed flag; their seasonality is the best-months window on each page.
