About Shalimar Bagh
Shalimar Bagh is a Mughal terraced garden on the northeast shore of Dal Lake, built by Emperor Jahangir in 1619 for his wife Nur Jahan. Laid out on a rising central axis with a series of stepped terraces, water channels and fountains, it culminates in a black marble pavilion once reserved for the royal family.
It is the earliest of the Mughal gardens named Shalimar, predating the later Shalimar gardens in Lahore and Delhi, and remains one of Srinagar's most visited public parks.
