About Yusmarg

Yusmarg is a pine-fringed alpine meadow in Budgam district, about 47 kilometres south-west of Srinagar on the banks of the Doodganga river. Its Kashmiri name means 'Meadow of Jesus', from a local tradition that the valley was once visited by Christ, though there is no historical record to confirm it.

Ringed by the Pir Panjal peaks, including Sunset Peak and Tatakuti, it is a much quieter alternative to Gulmarg and a trailhead for treks and pony rides into the surrounding hills.
