About this trek

Mahadev Peak is the highest point of the Zabarwan range, immediately east of Srinagar. The recorded route runs 9.0 km one way from the road head at Dara on the edge of Dachigam, climbing 1,974 m to a high point of 3,954 m, through pine and birch forest before breaking onto open grassy slopes and a final rocky ridge. It is normally done as one long day of roughly ten to twelve hours, with no water source high on the mountain, so all water is carried from the last stream in the forest. The walk returns down the same trail.
