About this trek

Mamneth is one of the closest proper hikes to Srinagar, starting from Dara village near Harwan, about an hour's drive from the city. A rock-and-mud trail worn by Gujjar and Bakarwal herders climbs steadily through dense forest, then opens onto grassy slopes and rocky outcrops below the top. The last stretch is steep, but the reward is a wide view over Srinagar, Dal Lake and Hazratbal, with Mahadev rising behind. There is no water on the way, so fill up in Dara before you start. Best from May to September; go late in the day if you want to catch the city lights coming on, and carry a headlamp for the descent.
